Fit for Life

Those who know me, know that I have a sweet spot for working with baby boomers and mature populations. I feel strongly about helping individuals maintain mobility, function and strength as they age. Being able to carry groceries up the stairs, get in and out of cars and put on one’s shoes are essential activities of daily living.  I take great pride in helping my clients get and stay fit for life.

Here are the success stories of a few of my mature clients.

One 60+ year-old woman was the primary care giver for her 90-year-old wheelchair-bound mother. Despite being an avid walker, she was about 25 pounds overweight and lacked the muscle strength to easily push the wheelchair over door thresholds or low curbs. I designed a fitness program that incorporated a  number of components, including weights. Within months she noticed a marked increase in strength and she no longer had trouble navigating her mom’s wheelchair over thresholds or uneven pavement.

Another client, age 57 was morbidly obese. She complained of lack of energy, couldn’t carry groceries up the steps from the car, needed help getting her shoes on, and still hadn’t unpacked after moving to the area several months earlier. Within 6 months of working with me on her fitness goals, she lost weight, improved function and regained enough energy to begin unpacking and organizing her kitchen. Today she no longer has difficulty putting on her shoes or carrying in the groceries.

Another senior client bought his dream car, a Corvette, only to discover he couldn’t get out of it. I designed a strength and mobility fitness program that enabled him to get out of his cool new car and  get up and down from the floor without difficulty.

Getting old doesn’t have to mean you have to stop doing the things you love. I have clients in their 80’s who maintain a very active lifestyle. They travel, bike, hike and generally enjoy life. You can too!

If you see yourself in any of these stories and are ready to get fit for life, meet me in the virtual gym. Call or text me today to get started, 831.236.6199.
