Posture 101

My neck and shoulders hurt all the time. Is that normal?

Chronic soreness and tension in your neck and shoulders is not normal or desired, however, it is a condition of today’s lifestyle. Sitting (or standing for that matter) with your head down and forward distorts your body in ways that result in faulty biomechanics leading to tension in your neck and upper back. Not only is poor posture painful, but it also makes you look old.

We often exacerbate problems caused by poor posture when we work out. Instead of correcting the issue we unknowingly build dominance in the wrong muscles. By regularly working out with a qualified trainer and being treated by a massage therapist we can retrain muscle memory, so our body recognizes how exercises feel when done correctly. When we re-educate our muscles, we stabilize our spine and build core strength improving posture and overall health.
