Good Posture Prevents Injury

Are you a candidate for shoulder recovery surgery? If you aren’t now, you may be if you don’t correct your posture. Good posture is the key to preventing and recovering from injury without surgical intervention.

There are a number of rowing exercises that when done correctly will correct poor posture. The seated or standing row, TRX row, K08 row, squat row and bar bell row all teach the body to pull correctly. Rowing is a back exercise not an arm exercise. It is the same motion that you use to pull luggage out of the trunk or weeds out of the ground. Rowing builds functional fitness.

Flexing and pulling properly require that you squeeze the shoulder blades together and down using the latissimus dorsi and lower and middle trapezoids to do the work. Ninety-nine percent of the time people do this exercise incorrectly relying on their upper trapezoids. This creates more tension in the shoulders and can make your posture worse. It is important that you learn to feel this exercise using the correct muscle groups. As you row, push your shoulder blades down. This flexes the muscles underneath your shoulder blades and along the rib cage. Try it now. Ahh, doesn’t that feel great?

If you want to build functional health and avoid shoulder surgery, call or text me today at 831.236.6199.  I am available to coach and support you one-on-one or in group fitness sessions six days week.
