During the holidays strive for efficiency

It is the holiday season; you know you need to exercise but are short on time. Should you skip the cardio or the weights? Neither! People tend to skip the thing they like the least. Cardio junkies do more cardio and weight junkies lift more weights. Even during crunch time, it is best to do both.  Circuit training is a great way cover your bases in less time.

Circuit training is a way of mixing cardio and weight-bearing exercises to alternate blood from your upper and lower body and move it through the body more quickly. This increases your heart rate. Combining weight bearing exercises like squats, pushups and lunges with jumping jacks and inchworms back-to-back for 30- to 40-second intervals followed by 20-second periods of rest provides the dual benefits of a cardio workout and weight training. Another option is interspersing weight bearing exercises with short bursts of cardio by alternating bike sprints, running on a treadmill or stepping for 2-minute intervals. These options allow you to get more bang for your buck in less time.
