Upgrading Your Most Important Asset

With guests and family finally coming together, I find that many are in the home decorating spirit, fixing up their homes to reflect the season and/or doing some home renovations to prepare for the upcoming parties and gatherings. As great as that is, and I’m all in favor and enjoy joining in the fun, I’m struck by the amount of time, expense, and bandwidth that we put into taking care of one of our most valuable assets, our homes. For some, restoring an old car is where it’s at, investing a lot of care and love (and money!) into a special vehicle. Understandably so, as it’s very rewarding to pull up to your house and feel the gratification of seeing your home or special vehicle beautified.Upgrading your surroundings or beautifying our most prized possessions is something innately human, as we all love looking at objects of beauty.

I’m struck however, by how we upgrade and care for so many things in our lives other than our bodies. Call it a discipline, but working out, keeping a healthy weight, and maintaining optimal health is a big job, taking just as much (if not more!) time and energy as any home remodelor restoration project. Some of us just have this discipline ingrained. Others, including me, have trained for this discipline to become part of themselves, part of the very character. And still, others that just can’t seem to maintain this and make it a discipline which may explain why a whopping 70% of Americans get NO exercise and another approximately 70% are considered overweight.

As personal trainers, this is one of the reasons we even have a job, which is to serve as the “General Contractor” of the most important improvement project you will ever undertake: the upgrade of your body. It was this journey I took with my personal trainer over 24years ago which transformed my body and ultimately reshaped my life. Looking back 24 years later, it’s obvious to me that the investment I made in training was worth 10 times the amount I invested. In fact, the results are priceless. Nothing feels as good as being in great shape, having a strong body, a clean diet and great numbers on blood tests and doctors’ visits.

It's the same feeling I get when I look at my upgraded or decked out for the holidays home. Pure joy.Your true home though is your body, and your body is your home. How can you enjoy the tangible upgrades when most important thing, this vessel we occupy, still needs upgrades? Seems to me that we need to shift our priorities and invest in ourselves first and foremost. Invest in our vitality, invest in our strength, invest in our fitness, not just financial fitness but the intangible. Invest first in ourselves! If you get it and are with me in the concept, congratulations! But, if you are one of the 70% though that aren’t quite there, we can help! Contact us today and let’s make this the year you put yourself first.

Happy Holidays Everyone!
