Sometimes unexpected circumstances prevent us from sticking to our exercise routine. It isn’t enough that we are dealing with a worldwide pandemic, here in California we are also dealing with wildfires that displace people and generally make the air unbreathable for days at a time. The key is to get back on track as soon as possible and not let one day turn into several and several days turn into weeks. A month can slip by in the blink of an eye, and all of the hard work we’ve put in is quickly lost.
Here are two stories of clients whose commitment to staying in the game paid off in the face of accidents and potential injury. Joe, 73, recently fell off a ladder at home. What could have led to major injury instead resulted in sore muscles. He required only a few days to recuperate and was soon back to his thrice weekly workouts. Contrast this with his wife who tripped and broke her ankle last year; she was out of shape and her injuries required months of costly physical therapy. Joe has been my client for 18 years; the investment he makes in himself pays off every day. The money he has invested in his health and fitness pales in comparison to the cost of even a short hospital stay!
Just last week, another 60+ client fell into a hole on the beach. While her shoulder and knees were badly bruised her bones were intact. She was back to exercising within a week. Whatever your age, being physically fit helps you recover from injury, illness and surgery more quickly.
