Science Says You Can Reverse the Aging Process by Three Years in Just Eight Weeks. Recent research published finds that exercise and a good, clean diet doesn’t just make you feel good – they can actually reverse your biological age. So, what exactly does it take to reverse your biological age?
Getting older is inevitable and while you can’t control your age, you can slow the decline of aging with smart choices along the way. The good news is it’s never too late to get started, so keep reading for steps to turning back the biological clock so that you both feel and function as if you were younger.
Losing Weight: Small changes add up to big results. Losing as little as 5% of your bodyweight can have big impacts on health risks such as lowering your risk of diabetes and heart disease, plus improve metabolic function in liver, fat, and muscle tissue. For a 200-pound person, that means losing at little as 10 pounds can help reverse the biologic aging clock.
Skip Packaged Food: One of the best strategies for looking young is to avoid processed foods and beverages. This will immediately eliminate added sugars from your diet. Wondering what’s processed? If you must rip open a package, that’s a pretty good sign of a food to avoid, save for some exceptions, such as nuts, eggs, olive oil or ground turkey. A good rule of thumb to follow is if the packaged food only contains one ingredient (i.e., chicken breast), it’s probably a reasonable choice.
Eat Plant Foods: While you shouldn’t plan your health around any one “super food”, there’s a lot to be said for eating anti-oxidant rich blueberries and other darkly colored fruits and vegetables such as berries, kale and spinach. Studies have confirmed that eating plant foods lowers the risk of diabetes and heart disease. Plant foods are loaded with all the phytonutrients, minerals and vitamins that processed foods lack (or attempt to have added back in)
Move: A body in motion will age better than one that sits on a couch or behind a desk. Nothing can substitute for strength training as you age, as this is one of the only ways to keep your muscles and bones strong as you age. Regardless of whether you lift heavy or lighter weights/higher reps, the key is to lift to the point of fatigue so that the body can grow new muscle fibers to adapt to the loads you place on them. Always lifting within your comfort zone because you fear “getting big” or hurting yourself? This is where a qualified personal trainer can really help to safely bust past those plateaus to get you to your fullest potential, no matter your age!
In addition, adding a well-rounded cardiovascular program that includes things like walking, jogging, biking and HIIT almost daily helps people reverse the clock and feel young.
